Scotland Hosts Ricky Burns Latest World Title Defense – It is actually more than just a title defense for Ricky Burns, the 34 year old Scotsman who holds the WBO world title at 140 pounds. Namibia’s Julius Indongo is bringing the IBF version of the world title to the table in what is being labelled a title unification match.

This past December Indongo went to Russia and dethroned then undefeated world titlist Eduard Troyanovsky with a starching 40 second knock out. At 21-0 he is looking to pull off the same trick as he will be fighting Burns in Scotland. This time Indongo will be about a two to one underdog, whereas against Troyanovksy he was a major four figure underdog. The books aren’t going to make that mistake again. Indongo went 3-0 in 2016 winnig his last two fights via stoppage in the opening round.

Burns (41-5-1) was considered shot as a fighter at lightweight when he endured a spell that saw him go 1-3-1. In retrospect, the move to 140 pounds was a blessing for Burns, who won a world title in that third weight class to really raise his resume and legacy. If he gets by Indongo Burns could be looking at a re-match with Terence Crawford, the man  he lost his lightweight world title to. Burns may not be as shot as he was being called a few years back but he still needs to be leery of Indongo’s big punch.
