Top Card Gambling Scenes In Movie History

May 8, 2008

We first see the Cincinnati Kid (Steve McQueen) playing against amateurs on the wrong side of the tracks in 1930s New Orleans — Hood: “He ain’t going to put out $194 on a lousy pair.” Kid: “You did.” — but 11 minutes in, we know where this movie is going. The man, Lancey Howard (a pitch-perfect Edward G. Robinson), is coming to town and he’s going to play the Kid, the local favorite. Everything is build-up to this game. There are two women, of course, the good one (Tuesday Weld) and the bad one (Ann-Margret, the original cause of global warming), a mentor (Karl Malden) and the rich local boy who wants to see Lancey gutted (Rip Torn).

NBA Playoffs Preview: Boston Celtics vs Atlanta Hawks

NBA Playoffs Preview: Boston Celtics vs Atlanta Hawks

May 4, 2008

They just didn't expect to need it this soon. The Celtics are back in Boston and hoping to finish off the pesky Atlanta Hawks on Sunday in Game 7. It's the last first-round series still going - a bit of a shock considering that the Celtics were the best team in the NBA during the regular season, and the Hawks the worst of the 16 to reach the postseason.

Final Four Betting Preview: Kansas (35-3) vs. North Carolina (36-2)

April 5, 2008

It marks the first time in tournament history that all of the top seeds have advanced to the Final Four.

The matchup with Kansas will be bittersweet for UNC's Roy Williams, who coached in Lawrence for 15 seasons before taking the helm in Chapel Hill five years ago. The significance of it is not lost on Williams.
