Cubs Visit Cardinals To Open 3 Game Set – The Chicago Cubs enter Friday’s three game series in St Louis at 17-17, playing .500 ball after dropping 2 of 3 to the Colorado Rockies. The Cubs rested Thursday and find themselves 2.5 games back of the first place Cardinals, who are 19-14.

The Cubs are sending Eddie Butler to the mound for his first start as they have lost 5 of their last six games, while the Cardinals are going to go with Mike Leake (4-1).

Meanwhile the Cardinals are hot, having won 16 of their last 21 games and completing the longest on the road winning streak in franchise history. Now they are coming home to face Butler, who was acquired from the Rockies in the off-season. He had terrible numbers last year but he has played well in Triple A and the Cubs are looking for help. Butler is still just 26 years old and his resume hints at some talent, so perhaps he will help turn things around in Chi-town.

Another bright note for Chicago is the bat of third baseman Kris Bryant, the reigning NL MVP has started to heat up but he is obviously going to need some of the others on te Cubs offense to start to wake up as well. No one is starting to panic just yet in Chi-town but the restless fidgeting has begun. The Season is more than 1/5 of the way over and the Cubs need to wake up.
