Rockies Face Twins Thursday Twinbill – The 25-15, first place Colorado Rockies head into Minnesota to face the 19-16 Twins in a battle of two teams that are in first place in their divisions at the quarter way mark of the season.
The teams started a four game set on Tuesday and that game saw the Rockies take down the Twins 7-3. With Tuesday’s rain out and this being the only visit to Minnesota for the season, the teams play two. In game 1 of the series Charlie Blackmon slugged his ninth home run of the season to give the Rockies the win as they chased Twins starter Phil Hughes while riding another strong showing from Kyle Freeland.
The Twins send 6-1 Ervin Santana to the mound trying to stem a two game losing streak. Though they have gone 2-2 the last four games the run scoring has stalled as they have totaled just 11 runs in those games. The Rockies answer with `-1 German Marquez who is coming off a season’s best outing against the Cubs where he three 6 scoreless innings. The second game sees the Rockies send 3-5 Tyler Chatwood to the mound to take Twins prospect Jose Berrios (1-0) in a game that will see most of the Twins organiztaion keeping on eye on their 22 year old right hander.
