Bellator 172 Odds Mitrione Over Fedor? The Bellator 172 event is set for san Jose, California on February 18th and the main event of Matt Mitrione vs Fedor Emelianenko has been set for a while.
Bellator’s practice of bringing in stars of yesteryear continues with the once great Fedor Emilianenko. Now 40, “The Last Czar” looked maudlin this past June as he was gifted a majority decision over UFC washout Fabio Maldonado. Fedor had a bad run through the middle of 2011 when he lost to Dan Henderson to give him a three fight losing streak. Since then he has fought just five times, winning all five fights but those fights were all against faded or unknown opposition.
Mitrione is 11-5 in MMA and at 38 is no spring chicken and he wasn’t even “once great.” Mitrione is a good athlete however, and he came to MMA late in life via the UFC’s “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show, so he would appear to be the significantly fresher body.
It is interesting that Fedor is a slight underdog to Mitrione however, since the Russian has probably forgotten more about MMA and combat than Mitrione has ever known. Despite what the UFC and Dana White want to tell everybody, the bottom line is Fedor is “The Greatest of All Time” but he is just tarnishing his legacy with this type of fight. Despite that look for Fedor’s stand-up to lure Mitrione in and let Fedor put him to sleep.
