Spurs Open Western Finals Visiting Oakland – The Golden State Warriors host the San Antonio Spur on Sunday for Game 1 of the Western Conference finals.
A critical factor for the Spurs will be the health of MVP candidate Kawhi Leonard, who along with starting point guard Tony Parker missed the last game against the Rockets. Leonard will be back for the Warriors series, Parker will not. Leonard may be playing on bad wheels however and the Spurs are going to need him. The bottom line is that Golden State has swept two series in a row and they have been resting while the Spurs started to be in dogfights in the opening series against the Memphis Grizzlies and that carried over to the all-Texas match-up with Houston.
The elimination of the Rockets came short handed and power forward LaMarcus Aldridge finally appeared to be comfortable in leading the way with 34 points and 12 rebounds. They will need more of that type of play from Aldridge if they are to have a chance to reach the finals.
But the Spurs are not going to go down without a fight. Way back in the first game of the regular season the Spurs were visiting the Golden State Warriors for their first game in the post Tim Duncan era and they dished out a 129-100 win when people least expected it. The Spurs finished the regular season as the team with the best road record and they are going to need to win at least one in Cali to advance here.
