March Madness Buffalo Regional Day 1 – The college basketball season all comes down to this – March Madness. The opening round regional action kicks off in earnest on Thursday afternoon, with three games in Buffalo, New York’s Key Bank Center on the schedule.

The day gets started with the defending national champion and #1 seeded Villanova Wildcats taking on Mount Saint Mary’s. The Wildcats are expected to advance with little fanfare but it is the tournament and anything can happen. At the very least, this afternoon will provide the first in-tournament glimpse of the team that won it all last year. How much luck is Villanova really going to need to repeat?

The fourth seeded West Virginia Mountaineers play the #13 seed Bucknell Bison in a game that should see the Mountaineers advance. Bucknell has been hot at the end of the year however, winning six in a row including the Patriot League tournament title. West Vuirginia lost to Iowa State in the BIG 12’s tournament final so they are coming into the tourney off of a loss.

The 8/9 matchup sees the closest game of the afternoon at the books, as expected as the Wisconsin badgers face off against the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Hokies are a team that depends on offense while the Wisconsin team is based on defense so it will be a clash of styles as the two teams meet.
