March Madness Salt Lake City Regional Day 1 – It is day one of college basketball’s signature event, the NCAA Championship tournament of 64, and the action sees three games on the schedule out West at the Energy Solutions Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The big news here is that number 8 seed Northwestern is making their first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament. A few decades ago, Northwestern was known as the worst college football team around and the entire nation feels good that they have overcome their basketball futility as well. Vandy had a hard going this year, losing 15 games but using three wins over the Florida gators to up their seeding. Will it all end for Northwestern in round 1?

How long can the #15 seed North Dakota Fighting Hawks stay in the game against mighty Arizona? They closed their season out on a strong 10-1 run to go 22-9 on he season. a trip to Utah for one game is a nice consolation prize for the Hawks.

The St Mary’s Gaels went a solid 28-4 on the regular season to earn a #7 seed in the tournament. They play on the West Coast Conference and finished second to #1 seed Gonzaga on the season. Like Gonzaga, the Gels would like to grab some respect in this year’s big dance and winning a game or two is what the Gaels have in mind.
