Villanova Visits Xavier is Saturday Hoops – The #2 ranked, 22-2 Villanova Wildcats face the #24 ranked, 18-6 Xavier Musketeers in a Big East basketball showdown on Saturday.

The two rivals met back on January 10th and that contest saw the Wildcats emerge with a 79-54 win over the Musketeers. In that game, the Musketeers kept it close for a half until the Wildcats came out hot to start the second and ran away with it for a comfortable win. As usual the Wildcats were led by Kris Jenkins and Josh Hart.

The loss earlier in the year to Villanova set off a three game losing streak for the Musketeers, but they have built back up with a 4-1 run in their last five games. The Musketeers are trying to make up for the losses of guard Myles Davis (domestic violence charges) and Ed Sumner, who tore his ACL. The Xavier squad can hope for a better game from Trevor Bluiett, their leader who had a poor outing against the Wildcats back in January.

It bears noting that last year’s #1 ranked Villanova squad took a loss in Cincinnati against Xavier, but it will be hard for this year’s team to equal that feat.

Villanova had just lost their first game of the season one game prior to playing Xavier the first time, so that had just lost their #1 ranking. As the college basketball regular season comes to a close the Wildcats are still one of the top teams in the country and their is major talk of a repeat for Villanova.  Xavier is currently 8-3 in the Big East and just one game behind ‘Nova in the Big East rankings.
