The Sharp Side of College Hoops - Right Angle SportsThe Sharp Side of College Hoops - Right Angle Sports

December 10, 2008

When it comes to sports handicapping, there are usually two main camps -- those that look to bet the best "team", and those that look to bet the best "number". You'll often see these two groups debate over and over again. One side lambasting the other for taking +3.5 when +4 was widely available, the other side countering with comments about how you can get the best number and still not be able to pick the winner.

When it comes to professional handicappers that sell their picks, things can get even worse. Some have claimed that out of all the touts out there, 98% of them are just good marketers that aren't that much better than a monkey flipping a coin.

But sometimes a handicapper comes along that proves to be one of the rare 2% that truly does have a big advantage over the oddsmakers. Edward from Right Angle Sports is one of those handicappers. This isn't a guy that claims to have inside info on the Monday Night Football matchup, or a ref on the take in some college football game. This is a guy that has done the work, done the research, and has found an edge over the oddsmakers year after year -- with the documentation to prove it.

But the most amazing thing about it? He caters to both camps -- those that respect the winner and those that respect the number.

Right Angle Sports is 17-5 on college hoops totals in December. Out of 22 games, he's picked the right side 17 times. A great clip for any handicapper. But the true sign of respect? The totals he is taking on his games have beaten the closing line by an AVERAGE of 3 points. If there's an easy indicator of what the "sharp side" is, it's what the closing line is compared to the opener. Edward is beating this on a consistent basis -- Edward *is* the sharp side. Not only is this guy picking the right sides, but he's also catering to that crowd that loves value as well.

Maybe just a lucky start to December eh?

33-14 on college hoops totals in November. Lines were moving an average of 4 points that month.

Maybe just soft lines so far this year?

88-56 college hoops totals last year.

This guy is no fluke. He studies the smaller schools, gets a good feel for what they have to offer, and takes advantage of the totals that are off. While Edward has decided to forgo the write-ups this year -- in what appears to be a very wise move considering the oddsmakers obviously respect whatever info he is using -- he definitely knows his stuff and you can tell just by talking to him. Here's an excerpt from a pick last year while he was still taking the time to do write-ups:

"The Gauchos are preseason favorites to win the Big West. Among four returning starters are two 1st team all-conference players in senior wing Alex Harris and junior forward Chris Devine, both who are excellent players. Point guard Justin Joyner and combo guard James Powell are back after starting the majority of games last year as freshman. I attended their lone exhibition win and Joyner in particular looks to have advanced his game considerably in the off-season. UCSB has also added a much needed inside presence with Weber State transfer F/C Nedim Pajevic and JC all-American D.J. Posley adds depth on the wing and at both guard spots. Head coach Bob Williams is under pressure to win and win now. Northwestern State enters this game shorthanded and with several lineup questions. The Demons will play this game without a true post player as starting center Jerry Moody is out due to academics and reserve center Demetrius Bell is still playing football. Point guard Michael McConathy who was expected to at least contend for a starting job has missed both exhibitions with a strained knee ligament and is questionable for this tournament. NWSU can go 10-12 deep and is likely to do a lot of experimenting at this stage of the season. They also have the disadvantage of a long road trip from Louisiana to California. Expect the Gauchos to take care of business with a nice win in a favorable spot here. Give the points."

Do you know anyone else out there that knows that much about Northwestern State and UC-Santa Barabara? We sure don't.

It's also important to point out that Right Angle Sports is one of the few services that concentrate on quality over quantity. You have an incredible run like Edward has, and it's tempting to strike while the iron is hot and start offering baseball, hockey, nba hoops, etc... But Edward has stayed with what he is good at -- college sports. His service even ceases college football picks after Week 8 to concentrate solely on college hoops (despite his winning college football records!). That's about as much dedication to providing a handicapping service as you'll find out there.

Right Angle Sports plays are all documented at a third party website, but he also releases the plays 10 minutes after tip-off on the RAS website. I, and many other gamblers out there can vouch that there is no doubt to the accuracy of his records.

I could rave on and on about the professionalism and quality of his service, but there really is no need -- his record speaks for itself, and Eye on Gambling gladly endorses Edward as the best college basketball handicapper out there.
