NFL Sports Betting Preview: New England Patriots vs New Orleans Saints
What some are already calling the game of the year or the preview of the Super Bowl takes place in the Superdome on Monday Night Football when the New Orleans Saints (10-0 SU, 7-3 ATS) host the New England Patriots (7-3 SU, 5-4-1 ATS) in a crucial NFL wagering match-up. Last week, the Patriots made easy work of the division rival Jets, registering a 31-14 football betting victory. New Orleans, meanwhile, made short work of the hapless Tampa Bay Buccaneers, dispatching them by a score of 38 to 7.
Many wondered how the Patriots would respond last week after blowing a late lead against the Colts and having HC Bill Belichick being questioned and criticized all week. New England responded with a statement to all who wondered aloud whether Belichick may have lost some of his team with his decision by pummeling the Jets. QB Tom Brady was efficient for New England betting fans in the win, completing 28 of 41 passes for 310 yards and a touchdown. He hooked up early and often with his favorite target, WR Wes Welker, who is on pace for his third straight 100 catch, 1000 yard season. Welker ended up with 15 catches for 192 yards in New England's sports wagering victory. The defense also made a statement by forcing five turnovers out of rookie Mark Sanchez, with three of those being Leigh Bodden interceptions.
Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints offense looked as if they would break every offensive record in the NFL after the first two games of the season, but the offense has settled down as the season has progressed. Lately though, many have questioned whether the Saints are really this good, or if it is a byproduct of fortunate scheduling. New Orleans has only faced three teams with winning record this NFL betting season, and the best team they faced, Philadelphia (7-4), was playing without QB Donovan McNabb at the time. Still though, the Saints have all but wrapped up the NFC South title and it would take a minor miracle for them not to at least get a first round bye in the playoffs. Without a doubt, this sports betting match-up against the Pats will be their toughest opponent to date.
NFL gambling odds show the Saints as a short 1.5 point home favorite tonight with a total of 56.5 points.
