ATLANTA BRAVES (BRANDON BEACHY) AT CHICAGO CUBS (MATT GARZA) 11:20 AM PACIFIC
The Braves didn’t get it done on Wednesday night but we see no reason to get off of them here. Atlanta has won five of their last seven and 10 of 12 and need every win they can get to hang with the dominating Phillies. They’re no doubt kicking themselves for missing an opportunity to pick up a game on Wednesday but we expect them to get back in the win column here. Brandon Beachy has pitched well of late with a 2.50 ERA in his last 3 starts and the Braves have won 6 of his 9 starts away from Turner Field. Garza is one of the better pitchers on the Cubbies staff and he’s got a solid 2.61 ERA at home but the Cubs have still managed to lose 7 of his 13 starts at Wrigley Field. We never have a problem going against the Cubs at home and we’re getting the better team at a reasonable price.
Bet Atlanta Braves (Beachy ) -115 over Chicago Cubs (Garza)
PITTSBURGH PIRATES (CHARLIE MORTON) AT ST. LOUIS CARDINALS (EDWIN JACKSON) 5:15 PM PACIFIC
The Cardinals are in atrocious form having lost 7 of 10 and all but conceding the NL Central title to red hot Milwaukee. The word we’ve used to describe the Redbirds down the stretch is ‘erratic’ and its hard to see them finding more intensity with their postseason hopes all but gone. The Pirates have ‘steadied the ship’ after their late July/early August nosedive and they’ve won five of nine head to head with St. Louis this season including 2 of 3 in the Gateway City. Edwin Jackson has a decent 2.72 ERA at home but the Cards have a 5-7 -3.6 unit loss when he starts here. Charlie Morton in stellar form with a 1.27 ERA in his last three starts. We’ll take a big price on a strong pitcher against a Cardinals team that just doesn’t look like they care any more.
Bet Pittsburgh Pirates (Morton) +150 over St. Louis Cardinals (Jackson)
BALTIMORE ORIOLES (JO JO REYES) AT MINNESOTA TWINS (FRANCISCO LIRIANO) 10:10 AM PACIFIC
Surprised we’re getting involved in a matchup between these two bottom feeders? Don’t be. The name of the game in sports betting is finding value and in a battle between a couple of teams going nowhere we’re taking the price with the visiting Orioles. Baltimore has won the first three games of this series and has a 5-5 record in their last 10 games. That may not get them out of the AL East basement but when you’re getting ‘plus money’ as an underdog in every one of those games that will put some money in the pockets of their ‘financial backers’. Twins have lost four straight and seven of their last 10 and have been one of the biggest train wrecks in baseball since their brief mid season uptick. Francisco Liriano is in better statistical form, but on a team as bad as Minnesota a 3.79 L3 ERA doesn’t justify this price. Baltimore has won 5 of 7 head to head this year including all three games at Target Field. This game is a ‘coin flip’ and as such we’ll take a big price with the visitors.
Bet Baltimore Orioles (Reyes) +150 over Minnesota Twins (Liriano)
