Nathan Eovaldi of the Los Angeles Dodgers We’ll close out an up and down week with four plays, all in daytime action.

PITTSBURGH PIRATES (JEFF KARSTENS) AT ST. LOUIS CARDINALS (KYLE LOHSE) 11:15 AM PACIFIC

The Cardinals have seemingly ‘thrown in the towel’ in the NL Central race and enter this contest having lost 6 of their last 10. The word we’ve used to describe the Redbirds down the stretch is ‘erratic’ and its hard to see them finding more intensity with their postseason hopes all but gone. Pirates have been their best on the road this season—they’ve gone 31-33 but that translates to a profit of +10.7 units and have made +8.2 units against divisional foes. They cashed a huge underdog ticket of +200 yesterday in a 7-0 win and we like the way this team has battled back after their late summer collapse. The Bucs are a young team, so we expect to see them put up a good effort going down to the wire. We like Jeff Karstens, who has been decent all year and we’ll gladly use him against the journeyman Lohse.

Bet Pittsburgh Pirates (Karstens) +140 over St. Louis Cardinals (Lohse)

COLORADO ROCKIES (JHOULYS CHACIN) AT LOS ANGELES DODGERS (NATHAN EOVALDI) 1:10 PM PACIFIC

We’re big fans of 21 year old righthander Nathan Eovaldi. Eovaldi (the ‘O’ is silent) could be the next big thing—he’s got smooth as melted butter mechanics, keeps his fastball consistently in the mid 90’s and as of yet has dominated MLB hitters like a seasoned vet. Four starts, five earned runs and coming off a nice winning effort against St. Louis in his last assignment. Rockies have lost money against RHP this year (41-54 -23.6 units) and they’re facing a good one here. Dodgers have been on a nice run of late winning 7 of their last 10 games.

Bet Los Angeles Dodgers (Eovaldi) -120 over Colorado Rockies (Chacin)

TAMPA BAY RAYS (DAVID PRICE) AT TORONTO BLUE JAYS (BRANDON MORROW) 10:05 AM PACIFIC

The Jays have turned a profit against left handers at the Rogers Centre but we’d much rather back the feisty Rays with the talented David Price on the hill. Rays have kept fighting in the tough AL East and enter this game on a 7-3 run. Price has been solid all year and is in exceptional form of late with a 1.12 ERA in his L3 games. Tampa Bay has won 9 of 13 in head to head play this year and have been a solid moneymaker away from ‘The Cigar City’ all season.

Bet Tampa Bay Rays (Price) -110 over Toronto Blue Jays (Morrow)

KANSAS CITY ROYALS (BRUCE CHEN) AT CLEVELAND INDIANS (JUSTIN MASTERSON) 10:05 AM PACIFIC

We’ll take a shot with Chen, who has pitched well in his recent outings. He’s got a 2.75 ERA in his last three starts and faces a Cleveland team that has lost money against southpaws this season. Indians have lost 6 of their L9 and although Justin Masterson has been solid at Jacobs Field all season (3.02 ERA) we’d rather take a price with the Royals and Chen.

Bet Kansas City (Chen) +170 over Cleveland Indians (Masterson)
