As we’ve discussed in the past, things get a little trickier after the September 1 call ups. For Labor Day we’ve got a pair of games using teams that are ‘under the radar’ yet in good form.
LOS ANGELES DODGERS (HIROKI KURODA) AT WASHINGTON NATIONALS (JOHN LANNAN) 10:05 AM PACIFIC
Two teams heading in different directions as the season winds down. The Dodgers have all of a sudden been playing inspired baseball and have won 12 of their last 13. The Nationals on the other hand have lost 10 of their last 12. Hiroki Kuroda has pitched well on the road all season long (2.54 ERA) and the Dodgers have made money against LHP this year. Given the divergent form of the teams we’ll gladly back the Dodgers.
Bet Los Angeles Dodgers (Kuroda) -110 over Washington Nationals (Lannan)
NEW YORK METS (CHRIS CAPUANO) AT FLORIDA MARLINS (JAVIER VAZQUEZ)
Mets check in to this matchup having won 8 of their last 10 games, while the Marlins continue to struggle with a 4-6 record in their last 10. Marlins have been woeful at home all season long—they’re 27-42 -19.8 units and that includes a +2 unit bump off that 14 inning win over the Phillies yesterday. The Mets have definitely had an up and down year both on and off the field, but they’ve made money away from home. On the road they’re 38-34 +14.3 units. Chris Capuano has pitched relatively well of late and we’ll back the road team as short priced dogs.
Bet New York Mets (Capuano) +115 over Florida Marlins (Vazquez)
