The Cleveland Indians (12-10) and Chicago White Sox (12-12) continue an American League Central series on Thursday night at U.S. Cellular Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 8:10 ET

Cleveland Indians at Chicago White Sox

The Cleveland Indians haven't lost a road series during the 2012 season

Cleveland has alternated wins and losses over its last six games, as it comes off a 6-3 road win over Chicago on Wednesday night, putting the team in position to avoid dropping its first road series of the 2012 campaign.  The Indians came into that contest with the second-best road record in the majors, with the team possessing the third-highest road batting average of .271 in the league.  Cleveland is 4-0 on the road this season when the total is 8 to 8.5, while the “over” has cashed in each of those contests.

Indians starting pitcher Justin Masterson (0-2, 5.40 ERA) has watched his club alternate wins and losses over his last four outings without picking up a decision, which includes a 3-2 home victory over the Los Angeles Angels last time out.  He surrendered two runs and four hits over 8.1 frames, but also managed to issue five walks.  Masterson has given out 17 free passes in 30 total innings this year.  In 15 career games (11 starts) versus the White Sox, the right-hander has a losing 3-5 record despite carrying a 2.31 ERA.

Chicago has dropped four of six games on its current homestand, with the “over” going 4-2 in that span.  The White Sox are still 5-2 against divisional foes this year, as they are just three games into a stretch of 15 consecutive versus the AL Central.  Offensively, the team needs a big game from outfielder Adam Dunn, who is 6 for 15 (.400) with a home run against Masterson in his career.   Chicago is 1-4 at home with a money line of -100 to -125, with the “under” going 3-2 in those contests.

White Sox starting pitcher John Danks (2-3, 6.23 ERA) has watched his club alternate wins and losses over his first five outings of the year, which includes a 10-3 home loss to the Boston Red Sox last time out.  The left-hander allowed a season-high seven runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings of work in that effort.  In two home starts this year, Danks is 0-2 with a 7.11 ERA, but opponents are hitting just .234 against him.  He will be facing the Indians for the 15th time in his career, coming in with a losing 4-7 record and 4.90 ERA, but tallied a 10-6 road win on April 16 against them (5.2 IP, 4 ER).

Bettors will likely back the Indians due to their 5-2 mark in Masterson’s last seven road starts, while the White Sox are 5-12 in Danks’ last 17 starts against the division.
