The Philadelphia 76ers (7-2) and New York Knicks (5-4) will meet up in a Eastern Conference affair Wednesday night inside Madison Square Garden.
Philadelphia 76ers at New York Knicks
Philadelphia is one of the hottest teams in the NBA and will be searching for its seventh-straight victory when taking on the New York Knicks. The Sixers will be playing for the third day in a row, picking up home wins on the previous two nights against the Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings. The squad leads the Atlantic division by two games and has covered every game during its win streak. “Our guys came back in great shape, we’re young, we’re resilient,” commented Sixers head coach Doug Collins. Philadelphia is 13-8 ATS as a road underdog of 3.5 to 6 points the last two-plus seasons.
The Sixers are led by sixth man Lou Williams in scoring, as the guard is scoring 16.4 points per game in just 25.7 minutes of action a night. Philadelphia will also look to get a major contribution from forward Elton Brand, who averaged 26.3 points and 9.3 boards in four meetings in this series a year ago. Defensively, the team has allowed New York to top 100 points just once over the past seven games, holding them to 98.1 points per game in that span.
New York has played much better defensively in winning three games in a row, with each contest falling ‘under’ the posted total. The Knicks returned home from a two-game road trip to register a 91-87 victory as 10.5-point favorites on Monday night. “There’s going to be nights where we’ve got to lean on our defense,” commented Knicks center Tyson Chandler. He has fit in nicely after winning the NBA championship with the Dallas Mavericks last year, averaging 12.0 points and 8.6 rebounds through nine games. New York is 1-6 ATS as a favorite this year, while the ‘under’ has cashed in five of the seven games in that situation.
The Knicks will play the 76ers three times this year, hoping that star forward Carmelo Anthony can catch fire against tonight’s opponent. He tallied 31 points and 11 rebounds in his lone try against Philadelphia during the 2010-11 season. Amar’e Stoudemire will also play an important role in the offensive game plan, averaging 25.3 points and 8.8 rebounds in four games in this series. Anthony is third in the league in averaging 26.6 points, trailing only Miami’s LeBron James and Los Angeles’ Kobe Bryant.
Bettors will likely back the Knicks due to their 6-1 ATS mark in the last seven meetings, while the 76ers are 5-8 ATS after three or more consecutive wins the last two-plus years.
