MIAMI DOLPHINS AT KANSAS CITY CHIEFS NOVEMBER 6, 2011 10:00 AM PACIFIC
If the Miami Dolphins are trying to ‘suck for Luck’ in hopes of finishing with the worst record in the league and a chance to draft Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck they’re not exactly going about it in the right way. Miami is 0-7 with a ‘lame duck’ head coach that has already put his house on the market, but particularly in the last few weeks their effort has been good. They lost to the Denver Broncos at home thanks to the miraculous comeback orchestrated by Tim Tebow and gave the New York Giants everything they could handle last week before losing the game outright. Now they’re facing a vulnerable opponent who may be feeling better about themselves than they should in the Kansas City Chiefs. KC is riding a four game SU winning streak that has more to do with scheduling and matchup breaks than anything the team is doing right. At best, nothing comes easy for Kansas City and they’re not a team to be trusted as a favorite. The offense is still sputtering along and the team’s biggest scoring weapon is placekicker Ryan Succop. With the exception of a 28-0 win at Oakland—that was the game in which Kyle Boller and Carson Palmer combined for six interceptions—they haven’t won a game by more than five points all season long.
Kansas City has been a bad home favorite in the past couple of seasons, posting a 4-8 record against the spread since 2009. Miami has a negligible home field advantage meaning that playing on the road is almost a relief. They’ve also been a good investment away from South Florida, covering 13 of their last 20 games since 2009 and currently on a 9-4-1 ATS run away from home. They’ll be an easy opponent for the Chiefs to ‘look past’ with a divisional matchup against Denver on deck. Look for another spirited effort from the Dolphins this weekend and this time it should be enough to earn the outright win.
