Patriots Host Texans Saturday – The Houston Texans head to New England this Saturday after taking out the Oakland Raiders 27-14 in the wildcard round of the playoffs while the mighty New England Patriots sat and rested.
The Texans are the weakest of the AFC playoff teams and they got by a Raiders team that was forced to start their 3rd string quarterback due to injuries. The Raiders, if healthy with QB Dereck Carr at the helm would have provided a juicy match-up for the Patriots, as the young Carr would have been grabbing for Tom Brady’s torch. Brady is now the oldest starting QB in the league, but he is coming off a stellar campaign that saw him rest the first four games of the season while on suspension.
The Texans face a near impossible task here. The Texans should be happy to make the playoffs and they are hoping that getting to the second round this year will be a good building block for the future, but Bill Belichick and company in New England are focused on making another Super Bowl. Nothing else will satisfy the Patriots but another ring, and at this point, Brady is playing for his legacy and adding another Super Bowl ring is basically the only goal.
Though former Denver Bronco and current Texan QB Brock Osweiler started a win against the Patriots last year (the Broncos won 30-24) he has been firmly below average this year for the Texans, failing to break 3,000 yards through the air (2,957) and tossing more interceptions than touchdowns (15 TD, 16 INT).
