St. Louis Blues 1-2 on Thursday’s NHL action—four games on the schedule for Friday night and I’ll look to bounce back with a pair of plays.

ST. LOUIS BLUES AT CALGARY FLAMES—OCTOBER 28, 2011 6:05 PM PACIFIC

Flames have struggled out of the gate this year while the Blues have rounded into form nicely. St. Louis enters having won three straight and four of six including victories at tough road venues like Philadelphia and St. Louis. Flames coming off a victory over Colorado but haven’t looked sharp at all this season. They’re #20 in scoring offense to this point but they haven’t been good enough on the defensive end to compensate (#19 in scoring defense). Calgary has won four of the last five head to head but the teams have split the last four meetings at the Saddledome. Blues are the better team in better form at the better price.

Bet St. Louis Blues +105 over Calgary Flames

EDMONTON OILERS AT COLORADO AVALANCHE OCTOBER 28, 2011 6:05 PM PACIFIC

It’s a tough concept to wrap your head around based on their struggles in recent years, but the Edmonton Oilers have the best scoring defense in the NHL. Edmonton has allowed just 1.44 goals per game. The problem is that the Oilers have scored only 1.89 goals per game—dead last in the NHL. Not surprisingly, Edmonton has gone Under in every game this year except 1 (1 OV, 6 UN) and the public hasn’t yet caught on to the fact that the Oilers are doing a good job keeping the puck out of their own net. Assuming this ‘good defense/bad offense’ continues they should be a strong Under play going forward until the linesmakers start to overcompensate.

Bet Edmonton Oilers/Colorado Avalanche Under 5′ -125
