NCAAB: Huskies Out for Blood

NCAAB: Huskies Out for First-Round Blood

The Huskies feature four seniors who will be making their third straight NCAA tournament appearance.  They were defeated in OT in the first round two years ago and last year lost a tough one to Louisville in the sweet 16.  They will again be a tough out for any team they play.  Head coach Lorenzo Romar has this team playing a more disciplined style this year which will serve them well. UW reloaded well around the four key returnees with Florida transfer sharpshooter Ryan Appleby, McDonald's All-American power forward Jon Brockman, and speedy point guard Justin Dentmon.

I've been impressed by not only the talent level but the heart and determination that Seton Hall has shown this past week.  They rallied from a 20 point second half deficit to force OT and defeat St. John's two games back.  In last game they battled hard for 40 minutes in 4 point loss at Rutgers.  The "RAC" is one of the more difficult venues in the country to play at and Seton Hall had scores of unfavorable calls go against them.

UCLA has the perimeter talent to play with anyone and just enough remaining frontline depth to hold their own inside. Arizona has won seven straight but the lone quality win was at Washington who I believe is a bit overrated.  The Wildcats needed OT in last home game vs Western Kentucky and are still playing without ineligible projected starting wing Jawann McClellan.  This line is 3-4 points too high and there are already some +9's out there.  Take the dog.

For the first time in over a year, Cal was completely healthy for a game last week vs DePaul.  Top center recruit Jordan Wilkes was available after missing 4 games with an ankle injury.  Senior F/C Rod Benson has slowly been working his way back into the lineup after a troubling leg injury that has bothered him since the preseason. Benson led Cal in scoring and rebounding last year but just returned to action three games ago.

The Rebels returned from a brutal four game road trip and snapped a five game losing streak with an impressive double digit win over Texas Tech on Saturday.  The win is discounted by the fact that the Red Raiders have been struggling in recent games but they had both frontcourt starters Daryl Dora and Jonathan Plefka healthy for the first time in a few weeks.  It was a well played and tightly contested game until UNLV broke it open midway through the second half.

This is a key game for the Rebels. This marks the start of a long home stand and there is pressure on head coach Rod Barnes to win this year. Ole Miss is looking to rebound off a tough road loss at Illinois-Chicago on Saturday. They led the game by 12 with 7 minutes to play before losing in overtime. The team practiced twice on Monday in preparation for this game.

Right Angle Sports handicapper Edward Golden personally attends and scouts 20-30 college basketball games in the Southern California region every year.  Here he shares some quick thoughts on all nine of the Los Angeles area teams after one month of play. I am very high on the Bruins, I actually placed a small bet on them to win the national championship a few weeks back.

The 49ers have a lot of potential this year.  Early season losses at UNLV and at Cal were not pretty, but they needed a bit of time to adjust to new personnel and new more uptempo style of play.  They rebounded with two straight impressive home wins and almost upset Portland on the road Saturday night as they led for most of the game but gave up a big run late.

I am expecting a lot more intensity from LMU tonight after coming out flat in their last two games.  They started the season with an impressive road win at BYU, but then were upset as a double digit home favorite vs a pesky Montana team.  I attended that game and LMU was lackadaisical defensively and missed a ton of easy shots offensively.

The Hawkeyes are loaded.  Five starters return from an NCAA tournament team that won 21 games last year.  Few teams are as seasoned as Iowa with three seniors and two juniors making up the starting five.  This team has great chemistry and is on a mission to win a Big 10 title.

No team in the country was hurt by injuries more than the Gauchos last year.  They literally played through most of the conference season with only 7 healthy bodies.  Four of the five best players missed the majority of the season.  It was amazing that they were able to stay competitive most of the time and even win their share of games.

With no selections last week, I am excited to find three betting prospects on the college football docket in Week 6.  Be forewarned, however, they are all underdogs and they are all on the road.  A risky proposition, no doubt, but a risk well worth taking.

Two excellent mmatchups I'm looking at for tomorrow. Looks to be a good day to cash in on the gridiron. Both an early game and a late game for this Saturday should keep bettors entertained all day long.

NCAA Week 1

Welcome to my final report of the week. My plays are rated from 1 to 2 UNITS with an emphasis on selectivity and detailed analysis.

One of the key values of the Early Looks Report is to anticipate line moves during the week. Five of our seven plays have already received action and the Air Force game was predicted to move to +3. Not bad for the first week!

Coming off of a break-even week, I have a rare Thursday night play. This looks like a solid home dog side, worthy even, of money line consideration.

Record:
1-1 last week
3-1 for the season

After a fantastic 4-0 Week 3 of NCAA Football handicapping - bringing me to 7-1 on the season - only one play jumps out this week.

With the taste of bitter defeat still burning from last season, can NC State head coach Chuck Amato give the home team crowd the win?

I have started the week on the right track with an outright winner on TCU over Utah.  We'll look to continue our winning ways with three solid plays for Saturday.  One small home favorite, one small home dog, and one double digit road dog.

I still believe Washington State can play with any Pac-10 team other than USC.  The Cougars have lost three straight games but all three were very winnable.  Despite last week's disappointing loss in overtime to UCLA, they still should be a relatively fresh team due to...

Rutgers to A Bowl?

At 5-2, Rutgers is just one win away from becoming bowl eligible and they have not been to a bowl game since 1978. For as far as they have come this season, they are not about to slip up now.  I have talked a lot this season about how this is one of the most experienced teams in the country.
