He’s definitely still alive.
But I think he’s the only player still alive from that 1954 NY Giants World Series winning team.

Read a book in the school library titled "Willie Mays...The Say-Hey Kid."

At age eight or nine, I could not understand why Hey wasn't spelled Hay.

Unfortunately for me, I did not start watching baseball until age 10 or 11.

By the early 1970s, Mays was a washed-up ballplayer whose best days were behind him.

Mays hit .250 in 1972 and .211 in 1973.

He was a career .301 hitter over 23 seasons.

Sad watching him play for the Mets….My father who was a Giant fan took me to Connie Mack Stadium every time the Giants came to Philly during the 60s…then the Vet was built in 1969…
